De Harde Leerschool is a Dutch foundation that turns rugby values into daily life skills. On the field participants learn how to work as a team, how to handle pressure, and how to get back up after a heavy hit. Off the field they follow coaching sessions that build routine, confidence and responsibility. The goal is simple, help people become fit, resilient and ready for education or work.
The programme runs in clear stages. It begins with an intake and a personal plan, where each participant sets targets for fitness, mindset and next steps in study or employment. Training weeks then mix rugby sessions with workshops. One morning might be basic catch pass tackle and unit skills, the afternoon might be about building a CV, practicing interviews or learning how to manage time and money. Another day the group might focus on strength and conditioning, nutrition and recovery, followed by a session on communication and teamwork.
Every group works towards a showcase match. The fixture is not just about the score, it is a marker that the group can function under pressure, respect the referee, and support one another. After the match the staff guide a proper debrief, what went well, what needs work, what habits will carry into the next week. That rhythm gives participants clear wins to build momentum.
Care sits at the centre of the course. Coaches, life coaches and volunteer mentors work together so that every participant has someone to lean on. The staff keep sessions energetic but safe, with firm standards on respect and discipline. Guest visitors from local clubs and local employers drop in, which turns the pitch into a bridge back to community and work.
When the core cycle is complete there is structured follow up. Participants keep in touch with coaches, they get help with applications, and they are introduced to nearby rugby clubs so they can keep training and stay connected. Many graduates move on to study places, traineeships and first jobs, and they often return to share their story with the next group.
Rugby Culture proudly designs and manufactures the clothing used in De Harde Leerschool projects, training gear and lifestyle pieces made to be durable, inclusive in fit and ready for daily use, so participants can feel part of a team from day one.
This is rugby at its best, integrity, passion, solidarity, respect and enjoyment, taught in a way that changes daily habits. The tackles and rucks matter, but the real wins are the new routines, the early alarms, the first job interview nailed, and the feeling of being part of a team again.
